I began writing plays as a natural extension of my work as a music and theater educator of elementary and middle school children.
I believe in developing scripts that give young actors strong ensemble material with casts of characters who have individuality and are age-appropriate. My adult material is largely inspired by a passion to be part of a theater community that provides compelling roles for women. Growing up with five sisters (and one beloved brother), an environment that includes the voices of strong women is one that I naturally seek onstage. I enjoy being a board member and dramaturg with The Bechdel Group in New York, an organization that sponsors readings and theater events that challenge the roles of women in film and theater.
I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and we have two grown children who have launched. In spite of having spent thirty-plus years with an urban address, my rural upbringing in western Pennsylvania continues to influence who I am, including the summers I spend as a (blue ribbon) quilter and vegetable gardener.
