I’m so proud of this new play, available here through Eldridge. This charming, fantasy romp follows the adventures–and misadventures–of the fairies, elves, and sprites of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as they await the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta. Here is how my editor at Eldridge described it in my acceptance letter: “This is a tight, well-plotted script. I was thoroughly engaged by the fun premise– a view of the fairies and elves and their adventures and misadventures in love, all happening at the same time of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The dialogue is fresh, lively and fun. Each scene moves the plot forward. I admire the author’s ability to capture the sense of play and romantic entanglements and complications of the source material, with the action building to almost farce-levels at some points. There is great opportunity for physical humor here, too. I was happy to see representation of a queer couple that is done innocently, sweetly and naturally. This is another script that is an opportunity for students to learn more about Shakespeare but is also a way to make the energy of Shakespeare accessible and fun for student performers.”
